If the area gets a few hours of morning sunshine you can plant Duranta or Corkscrew Vine - the first is a shrub, the second will need a trellis or something to climb on; or you can plant bird of paradise. A final suggestion is Coral ardisia. It is a small upright shrub, from 2-6 ft high. It is evergreen unless killed back by very hard freezes. The dark green, serrated leaves are glossy and very attractive. Good luck with your new plant!
