Mt. Morris, Mi
|How close to a foundation can a lilac tree be planted. I'm concerned because Mine is 5ft from the house and I'm worried about roots breaking the poured basement walls.

|Japanese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata) can grow 25' high and wide so yours may be too close to your house for healthy growth and for the safety of your foundation. I would move it now while it is small! If you want a lilac as a foundation shrub, choose one of the dwarf lilac bushes such as Miss Kim. It will remain small enough to grow happily 5' from your foundation.
