|What is the difference between snails and slugs. El nino seams to have influenced a multitude of these pest this year.
|The most basic difference between snails and slugs is that snails have a hard shell to protect their bodies, and slugs do not. They have the same appetite for tender green growth, but slugs generally feed at night or very early in the morning and then hide during the day because they have no protection from the drying sun. Snails have protection from sun and from predators; they withdraw into their portable houses whenever the need arises. Control for slugs and snails is the same. Hand pick and destroy, or deter them with diatomaceous earth sprinkled around your plants. You can trap them by placing an inverted clay pot in your garden (where they'll crawl in and hide). Just scrape them out and destroy them once a day. It will take a while, but eventually you'll lower the population!|
