|I'm digging up an area in my yard to plant 2 trees, a pink dogwood and a yoshino cherry tree. A landscaper suggested maiden grass around the trees-3 bushes. It grows to 5 ft I'm afraid it might be too much.I love both trees-think they're ok?

|I agree with you. Maiden grass can not only grow high and wide but their root systems will be extensive enough to compete with your new trees for moisture and nutrients. Plus, digging them out at a future date will require extensive excavation. If you want to plant something beneath your trees for color or texture, how about low growing mondo grass instead?
