I have a 3 year old butterfly bush that will grow to 5 ft but the blossoms shrivel up and die before when the just start to look like a blossom. What is causing that?

Lack of adequate sunshine is the most common reason for butterfly bushes to fail to open those flower buds. Too much water can also cause the buds to shrivel. Try watering deeply only once each week during the growing season, and make sure your plant is getting all day sunshine. Hope this helps!
