I live on the North Shore on LI & want to know when is it OK to stop watering my lawn. I have not yet put down my winterguard & am wondering when to shut down my sprinlker system.

The first frost of the season typically arrives the first week of October so you have only a few days to apply your winterguard, water it in well, and then shut down your sprinkler system. An overnight frost won't hurt your system but prolonged freezing temperatures will. I'd get that winterizer on now and water it in, then water regularly until just after the first frost of the season. At that time you can shut down your sprinkler system.
