I live Homewood, IL 25 miles south of Chicago. When is it too late to aerate and overseed? |
I think it's too late to aerate and overseed this season. New grass needs 4-6 weeks to germinate, grow and establish itself. Your average first frost of the season is only about 2 weeks away. I'd wait until April to aerate and overseed. Technically you could aerate now then rake the soil well and overseed in the spring, but I think it would be less labor intensive to wait and do it all at once next spring. |
