|How can I grow patchouli here in south central PA? I'm hoping that it can survive outside...I've researched it as much as I can, and I've learned that it's a member of the mint family. I'm hoping that means it will be able to take a hard winter and come back in the spring.
|Unfortunately, patchouli is considered a "tender perennial" member of the mint family and will not survive such cold weather. To save your outdoor plant from year to year you might wish to take cuttings every fall and carry them over indoors or purchase a replacement each spring. Alternatively you might grow it as a specimen container plant to be wintered indoors. The smell is so wonderful it's worth the effort!
