Catalpa is the name of the tree commonly called the Popcorn Tree, and sometimes called Indian Bean Tree. It's a large tree that bears clusters of trumpet-shaped, 2-inch wide flowers, (white, and striped or marked with yellow and soft brown). They're extremely fragrant. The flowers are followed by a long bean-shaped seed capsule. Catalpa leaves are heart-shaped. It's a deciduous tree, can grow 40-70 feet tall, and provides welcome summertime shade.
