Insecticidal soap is made from the fatty acids of plants so it is considered an organic pest control. The fatty acids effectively kill soft bodied insects such as aphids by suffocating them or breaking down their waxy coating. Safer's Insecticidal Soap is one brand that's readily available but there are lots more on the market. Technically you can make a soap spray at home with a mild soap such as Ivory (not detergent) but it can leave a residue on your plants and if you make the solution too strong, it can harm your plants.
