| The junipers in our front yard have not been trimmed for probably 10 years. Many of the lower branches are brown. What is the best way to trim them back? Will they regrow from old growth if I severely cut them back. I am willing to have them look bad for a year if they will regrow. The junipers are in a hedge along the driveway. Between each juniper is an azalea. Therefore severe cutting will not produce a totally barren look. |
| Healthy junipers will regrow from old wood after a severe trimming, but I would do it in early spring and then ensure they receive adequate water and nutrients duting the coming year so they can recuperate from the harsh treatment. There are different reasons why the lower branches might be brown; some common reasons are insufficient light, overwatering, root rot, and/or insect infestation so before you cut them back, you might want to verify why they are brown.
