Hmmm.. could be snails? Probably not because of your summer heat but it was worth a try! Other nightime feeders include lizards, mice and rats, and earwigs. You might try covering over your plants at night with a woven landscape fabric or even old window screen material, securing it into the soil. If damage still occurs it's probably earwigs (they hide in the soil). If no damage, then the marauders are lizards, mice or rats. Hope you find the culprits soon!
