I planted my Japanese Maple in June but it doesn't seem to be doing well and I was wondering if it is okay to move it this time of year?

Since digging and transplanting will be stressful for your maple it would be best to wait until it is dormant before moving. The tree will go dormant after the first hard frost. Or you can wait until late February or early March to dig and move the tree. Hope it's happier in its new spot!
