Raccoons often peel up the lawn in search of grubs. If you use a grub control product such as Grubex or Bayer Advanced Season Long Grub Control, the raccoons won't find any fat grubs and will stop digging in your lawn. They are creatures of habit, though, and may continue to dig until they are convinced there are no grubs in your yard. Best wishes with your lawn!
