Arrowwood Viburnum, Holly, Yew, and Rhododendron are good choices for shady areas. All will spread as wide as they are tall but you can prune them to fit the area next to your house. Some types of arborvitae will grow tall and narrow but they are not all adaptable to shady conditions so the degree of shade the site provides will dictate whether or not they will grow next to your house. For instance, deep shade will not support them but partial sun/partial shade will. Hope this information is helpful!
