Only a few ornamental grasses will tolerate shade. Some to consider include Japanese Forest Grass or Hakone Grass (Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'); Palm Sedge (Carex muskingumensis), Bowles Golden Sedge (Carex elata 'Aurea' or 'Bowles Golden'), Northern Sea Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium), and Snowy Woodrush (Luzula nivea).
