After planting these shrubs, do they need to be covered anyway for the winter? I live in northern Minnesota!

Blue Star Junipers are cold hardy so your plants should be just fine. If you are concerned about cold winter winds you can drive some stakes into the ground and attach burlap to act as a windbreak their first winter in the landscape.
