I purchased an Ernest Markham Clematis this Spring and placed it in a larger clay pot. What do I need to do to keep it over the winter? We have a basement egress window well. Would the roots in the pot be freeze safe sitting down in the well?

Clematis "Ernest Markham" is a hardy, vigorous Clematis producing large roundish magenta red flowers from mid summer to mid fall. It should be alright in the basement window egress, especially if you wrap insulation around the pot to add a little extra protection. Enjoy your clematis~
