Your new lemon tree should be fine it its nursery pot for another 6 months or so. At that time you may want to check to see if it is becoming rootbound. You'll know it needs to be repotted if the roots are trying to escape through the drainage holes. Your tree will grow best in moist, but not soggy wet soils. Check it daily until you know how thirsty it is. Water when the top of the potting soil begins to dry out. Or, pick it up - it should feel heavy. If it is lightweight, it needs to be watered.
