I have one watermelon plant. It has runners going in every direction. I did not plant this plant to have 50 watermelons. I planted it as an experiment to learn how to grow them. Should I cut some of the runners off the plant? And would this help grow a few watermelons better or faster? If I do cut the runners back how do you know which ones to cut? |
Now is a good time to pinch back the tips of the vines of your plant. You can remove as many vines as you want; save the ones with melons developing on them and just pinch out the growing tip to keep the vine from progressing further. Remove all but one melon on each vine. This will help direct the plant's energy into developing only a few fruits, and will speed maturity in those fruits. |
