Pieris japonica 'Dorothy Wyckoff' is hardy in USDA zones 4-8 so it will be happy in your zone 5 garden. This compact, rounded shrub produces reddish-purple buds that first open as soft-pink then mature to white. It grows to about 5 feet high and wide, making it a superb specimen for a container or small garden. It grows best in acidic, fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. You can prune it to keep it smaller. I think the web description pertains to Pieris species, not the cultivar 'Dorothy Wyckoff'. We'll see if we can't get that description fixed!
