Sounds like a mealybug infestation. These critters congregate along the stems, the midribs of the leaves, and even down towards the roots of the plants. They are difficult to control because not all insecticides are safe to use on all types of houseplants. The best remedy is to dab each one with a Q-Tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. They will die and you can peel them off the plant with a fingernail or a toothpick. You may have to repeat the treatment to get them all. Good luck with your plants!
