Perlite will be crushed when you place the container on top. It can also float in the water which might cause a mess, and it will discolor over time which will make it look unattractive. If you don't have pebbles, how about using some aquarium gravel instead? It comes in lots of colors so you can match your decor. An alternative is to use 3-4 stones to prop up the pot so it is above the water level in the tray. The purpose of the gravel or stones is to hold the containerized plant up above the water level so the roots of the plants do not remain soggy, which can cause rot, while you are trying to increase the humidity around the plant. Hope you find just the right accessory!
