It is best to prune your camellias after they have finished blooming. This way you can enjoy the flowers without risk of cutting off any developing flower buds. Camellias can bloom in the fall, winter, or spring depending upon type so let your shrub be your guide. When it has finished flowering, it's time to prune. By the way, it won't hurt the plants if you prune them while they are actively blooming, but you will lost all those lovely flowers. Best wishes with your landscape!
