|Sounds like a soil problem to me. Try digging the bare areas, spreading some compost or peat moss over it and digging it in again. This will add nutrients to the soil and also loosen it up if it is compacted. Then rake it smooth and broadcast your seeds. Sprinkle a little more compost or peat moss over the top of the seeds to help keep them moist (and to keep birds from feasting on the seeds!), then water often enough to keep the seeds moist. Sometimes you need to water several times a day (depending upon weather). The seeds should germinate in 10-14 days. Hope this method brings you success.
