I was just wondering if I had any vegatable or fruit options to grow outdoors in the long cold winter/frost months?

Not much will grow outdoors in Illinois winter weather, even with a cold frame or other covering to keep them from freezing. Part of the problem is the lack of strong sunshine in the winter. You can plant cool season veggies in August to harvest before the end of December but it's too late to do that this year. Wish I had a whole list of things to try, but I'm afraid they won't be too successful. But, you can spent the winter months planning your spring garden and starting seeds indoors for transplant out into the spring garden. Happy planning!
