Lilacs need a pronounced winter chill in order to flower well. The best types of lilacs for your southern California landscape are the Descanso hybrids. Check the plant tag to make sure it is a low chill variety such as Lavender Lady, Blue Sky, Chiffon, Sylvan Beauty, Angel White, and Sensation. If so, plant it in a sunny area and it should grow well in your garden. Enjoy!
