Calycanthus floridus (Carolina Allspice) bears heavily scented flowers. It is an old fashioned favorite with spicy, fragrant summer flowers. Flowers are 1 1/2 inches across and have strap-like, yellow petals. Fall color is yellow. Thrives in fertile, moist soil in full sun. Part shade is better in warmer climates such as yours.
