I have 3 blueberry bushes in my garden. What should I do over the fall & winter to ensure they stay healthy and alive. (How often do they need water, if I am to cover them with mulch--is there a specific kind that is best?)

Your blueberry bushes are quite cold hardy and will not need winter protection. They grow well in areas where snowfall is routine so in your southern California garden they will be just fine without any special treatment. Continue to water them as you usually would. They may or may not lose their leaves this winter, but they will never actually go dormant so will need to continue receiving water on a regular basis. Best wishes with your landscape!
