Fungal diseases can cause the type of spots you describe but just to be sure, why not take samples of the affected leaves to your cooperative extension office or a well staffed nursery? Helpful folks there can correctly identify the problem and make suggestions for control. If the damage is not involving the entire tree, you might just want to allow it to run its course and when the leaves fall, rake them up and dispose of them. If the tree is fully involved, a copper based fungicide can help. Best wishes with your avocado tree.
