Lawns don't grow much during the fall and winter months so the best approach is to apply a winterizer fertilizer now and plan to roll up your sleeves and work on the lawn next spring when it is actively growing. Thick and healthy lawns will crowd out most weeds so plan on putting your lawn on a maintenance schedule which includes watering, mowing and feeding on a regular basis. Rutger's University has an excellent turfgrass care publication that will guide you through the steps for a healthy lawn. You can download a copy at the following web address:
