i live in Alabama near gulf shores and I would like to know if I can grow fruit trees in my backyard. I already have mature oak trees in my backyard and would like to add a lemon tree and a pear or apple tree but do not know if they will grow being so close to the oak trees. Can you give me any advice. thank you

Your fruit trees should be fine when grown near a mature oak tree. The major problem with oaks is that their leaves can be somewhat acidic (they contain tannic acid) but if you keep the leaves raked up, they shouldn't cause problems with your new fruit trees. Be sure your new trees get lots of sunshine all day long rather than being shaded by the canopy of the oak. Best wishes with your new trees!
