Daffodils will grow in the shade of deciduous trees because by the time the trees leaf out, the leaves of the daffodils will have absorbed enough energy from the sun to help them grow and flower the following year. But if the area is fully shaded winter and summer, daffodils will have a tough time performing well. If this describes your yard, you might consider growing daffodils in containers which you can move into sunny spots, or you might think about planting daffodils as annuals, replacing them with fresh bulbs each fall. Best wishes with your garden!
