Once branch of orange tree has been cut, should one paint it? Why?

You won't need to paint your pruning cuts. Trees compartmentalize injuries all by themselves by shutting down the vascular system just behind a pruning cut. To maintain the health of your citrus tree you need only to make clean cuts, angled slightly so water doesn't collect on the wound. The tissues will harden as the tree seals off the wound.
