Message:
Hi, I am trying to find out what shrubs, perennials, trees, and sod will survive through the winter if planted in the beginning of December this year in zone 8a? There is a residential planting plan I am designing and they plan to move in the beginning of January. Currently, all existing shrubs are being removed. They are having a rehearsal dinner at their house January 22, so they want a fast design turn-around. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

The mild winters in Savannah mean you can plant throughout the year. There are dozens of perennials, trees and shrubs that grow well in your region.

The University of Georgia extension service has several publications with detailed planting information. Visit their website: http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caesp...
http://georgiafaces.caes.uga.e...

Once you've read the publications you can make lists of plant possibilities and sketch them into your design. Enjoy!
