Garden mums are perennial plants that will die down in the winter months but sprout new stems in the springtime. As long as your mums are planted in well draining soil they should survive the winter months without any particular care from you. Wait until the tops of the plants die down naturally and then prune everything off at ground level. You can place a few inches of mulch material over the tops of the plants to help protect them from winter weather. In the spring, after they begin to sprout, gently pull the mulch away from the stems. Hope this information is helpful!
