My mums were beautiful when I bought them, 5 weeks ago and now look like they are dying and drying up

Mums usually bloom through December so if yours are drying up already they may need a little more water or a little less sunshine. Although they typically grow well in full sun, yours may have come from a greenhouse where the growing conditions were perfect. If so, they may be showing some signs of stress because of a difference in temperature and light levels. Since garden mums are perennials, I suspect the roots will be just fine even if the tops die down. Healthy new shoots should emerge from the crown of the plant in early spring. Best wishes with your mums.
