How do I get rid of the grass in my yard and put a vegetable garden in its place, all the time remembering, I am on a limited budget

Hand digging is labor intensive but economical. I'd just start at one end of the proposed garden and dig the grass out, roots and all. Once the lawn in gone you can work some compost or other organic matter into the soil to loosen it up and prepare it for planting. In February you can start planting veggies in your new garden. Enjoy!
