|The control really depends upon the plant in question because some plants are more sensitive than others to certain insecticides. Horticultural oil will suffocate the scales but there are some cautions to follow as listed on the product label. If your plant is listed as safe on the label, use the product according to directions. If your plant is not listed on the label you may need to control them by dabbing each one with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. It is tedious but effective. Good luck with your eradication project!
