do plants go dormant or die back for the winter even if they are inside the house. if they do, what part of the plant dies back first? is it all at once or starts one spot and spreads? thank you.

Most houseplants remain evergreen during the winter months but there are exceptions - those plants which grow from bulbs sometimes need a rest period. They will stop growing and then the leaves will turn yellow and die. When that happens you withhold water until the plants sprout new leaves. It would help to know the name of your plant. If you can supply that through another question to this forum we can give you specific growing habits for your plant and then you'll know whether it is behaving naturally or if it has developed some problem. Good luck with your plant!
