Croton will grow happily in a container for an indefinite amount of time. You'll only need to pot it up into a larger and larger container as the plant grows. I usually choose containers that are at least one third as tall as the plant I'm potting up. So if your croton is 12" tall, use a 4" tall container; a 3' tall croton can go into a 12" tall container and still have plenty of room for root growth. Enjoy your croton!
