Now is not a good time to plant. Freezing temperatures are rare in south Florida and most of the plants available in local garden centers are tropical in nature. They won't like freezing weather! So, wait until the weather warms up in March and then plant to your heart's content. Here's a publication from the Florida extension service listing the best plants for your gardening region along with their ultimate sizes and season of bloom. Hope you find it helpful in selecting just the right plants for your landscape: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/mg035
