should mex sage bushes be cut in winter or anytime?One of mine seems to be dying at the top but lots of green at the bottom.

Mexican sage is typically pruned every year, in the fall, after it has finished flowering. You can prune yours back now, removing the dead plant material plus shearing some of the healthy stems back to encourage lots of new growth this spring.
