Are there any plants that I could plant close to my house that would soak up water when it RAINS and RAINS?

Here are some shrubs to consider for an area that is moist (but not standing water): deciduous holly (Ilex verticillata), inkberry holly (Ilex glabra), shrub dogwoods (Cornus sericea), Itea, and Virginia Sweetspire (Clethra). Unfortunately, while these shrubs do prefer a moist soil, I would not rely on them to solve a drainage problem by sucking up the water. Drain tiles or a swail might be a more permanent solution.
