| I was wondering if Huckleberries would grow well in my garden and where might I get some plants. They grow very well in the mountains that surround the valley and I would be interested in trying them at home. Any suggestions? |
| If you can create the right soil environment for them, huckleberries (Gaylussacia dumosa) should grow fine. They require an acidic (pH 4.5), peaty soil that drains well, but will hold adequate moisture to sustain the shallow-rooted plants. Partial shade is their favored garden light. If your soil is very alkaline, as it is in much of the mountain west, then you may need to alter pH with soil amendments, and then mix peat moss with the soil prior to planting.
