I have several Weigela shrubs that got huge this summer. Can I prune them back now without worry of losing spring blooms?

After flowering, you can cut back the branches that have bloomed, to allow those that haven't yet bloomed room to grow. About every two years you can cut the plant back about half-way to encourge new, dense growth. If the plant is severely overgrown, cut back some of the branches all the way to the ground, and others about half-way. This will renew the shrub and encourage new flowering branches to grow from the crown of the plant.
