The seeds of the castor bean plant contain toxins and should not be consumed, but the rest of the plant won't hurt you. In fact, some gardeners deliberately plant castor bean plants near their gardens to ward off gophers and moles. Just be careful not to harvest and consume the seeds of the plant and your garden should be safe.
