| My son resodded the front yard. In some areas the grass has a yellow look to it. It was resodded after some construction work to the yard. He added about a quater inch of mulch before resodding. What can I do to prevent this problem. The lawn was fertalized in the fall. |
| Yellow turf in the winter can be due to the variety you've planted - some go nearly dormant in the winter - or it could be a sign of overwatering. The soil should drain quickly after a rainstorm and after you water. If water is standing or not draining well it can actually suffocate the roots. Check the drainage by digging down into the soil about 12 hours after a heavy rainstorm or after you've thoroughly watered your lawn. About the only other thing to look for is soil pH. If it is too acidic or too alkaline, nutrients can be bound up and made unavailable to the roots of your plants, even if you fertilize on schedule. A soil pH test might be in order. It could be that your turf needs a little iron to green it up. These are the most common reasons for yellowing turf so you'll need to put on your detective cap and ferret out the cause in your yard.
