I live near the beach in Fl and have a ficus tree that is in a container. We had unusally cold weather and the ficus lost a lot of leaves. Is this normal? Are ficus deciduous?

Ficus are evergreen but they aren't too fond of cold weather so I think what you are seeing is normal. Wait until the weather warms up to see if any extensive damage has been done. If you, you can safely prune away the affected branches and your ficus will fill out again. Good luck with your ficus!
