We received a grapefruit tree for Christmas. Because of the cold weather, it has been indoors most of the time since then until the last four days. Many of the leaves are falling off. Should we worry? How long can we leave it in the container it came in?

Your new grapefruit tree is probably showing a little stress from being moved outdoors. Temperature, humidity and light levels are different indoors and out. It should perk up, especially when the weather warms up. You can keep the tree in the same container for about a year. After that amount of time it should be planted in the ground or, if it is a dwarf tree, repotted into a slightly larger container. Good luck with your new tree.
